Summary of Position

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administration, maintenance, security, and support of the company's server, identity, and endpoint infrastructure. This is a Microsoft-centric role built around Windows Server, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Intune, with supporting responsibility for Linux systems and public cloud resources in Azure and AWS.

Because we operate multiple business entities, the role requires comfort working across distinct domains, directories, and tenants, and in a regulated environment where systems store and transmit protected health information. This position is based in Coppell, Texas on a hybrid schedule.



Key Job Elements



  • Administer, patch, and maintain Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 systems across physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted environments.
  • Manage Hyper-V hosts and failover clusters, including guest provisioning, capacity planning, and host maintenance windows.
  • Administer Active Directory Domain Services and core network services including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services.
  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), including hybrid identity via Entra Connect, conditional access policies, MFA enforcement, and SSO/SAML application integrations.
  • Administer Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams, covering mail flow, sharing controls, and license assignment.
  • Manage the Windows endpoint fleet through Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM), including enrollment, compliance policies, application deployment, and Autopilot provisioning.
  • Execute user lifecycle operations - onboarding, role changes, transfers, and offboarding - and support periodic access reviews.
  • Administer monitoring for overall systems performance to proactively identify potential issues, and drive incidents to resolution.
  • Implement updates and patching for all systems and remediate system vulnerabilities within defined service levels.
  • Assist in administration and maintenance of backup systems and other backup storage technologies, and perform periodic restore testing against defined recovery objectives.
  • Administer Azure infrastructure resources including virtual machines, virtual networks, and storage accounts, and support AWS resources (EC2, S3, IAM) in coordination with application and bioinformatics teams.
  • Perform routine administration of Linux servers (RHEL, Rocky Linux, or comparable), including package and patch management, service administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Automate recurring administrative tasks using PowerShell, including the Microsoft Graph, Exchange Online, and Active Directory modules.
  • Apply AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation, validating all generated output before it is applied to production systems and ensuring protected health information is never exposed to unapproved services.
  • Create and maintain documentation for all implemented computer systems and update for each system change.
  • Follow formal change management for production changes, including testing, approval, implementation, validation, and rollback planning.
  • Racking and cabling of new systems.
  • Participate in on-call duties and resolve escalated incidents and service requests through the IT ticketing system.
  • Handle systems and data containing protected health information in accordance with HIPAA and applicable CLIA and CAP requirements

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience



  • Associate's degree in a technology related field of studies, or equivalent practical experience; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on systems administration experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated depth in Windows Server administration (2016 or later), including Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Production experience with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) and hybrid identity, including Entra Connect and conditional access.
  • Production experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune and/or Microsoft Configuration Manager (SCCM) for Windows endpoint management.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell for day-to-day administration and automation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using AI-assisted tools, such as Microsoft Copilot or comparable assistants, in a professional IT context, with the judgment to validate generated output and protect sensitive and regulated data.
  • Experience with Hyper-V or other hypervisors.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise backup, restore, and disaster recovery practices.
  • Working knowledge of Linux server administration (RHEL, Rocky Linux, or comparable).
  • Basic knowledge of AWS and Azure.
  • Experience with systems monitoring and device management platforms.
  • Microsoft certification such as AZ-104, MS-102, or MD-102 is a plus.
  • Experience in a HIPAA-regulated, CLIA-certified, or CAP-accredited environment is a plus.
  • Experience supporting multiple Active Directory forests, business entities, or Microsoft 365 tenants is a plus.
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 Copilot, including licensing, rollout, and associated data governance controls, is a plus.
  • Scripting experience in Bash or Python is a plus.
  • Strong background, knowledge, and working experience across a wide range of IT technologies, security architecture, and system life-cycle phases preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a business environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates flexibility to accommodate changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to provide escalated support, and to participate in a scheduled on-call rotation.
  • Ability to work onsite in Coppell, Texas on a hybrid schedule, currently three days per week and subject to change.

Environment

Work is performed in a general office environment and in data center, server room, and laboratory-adjacent areas. The position requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, reaching, and manual manipulation, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance as needed, in connection with server, storage, and network hardware installation. Occasional work in temperature-controlled data center environments is required.
