About our group:

The Staff Facilities Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and optimization of facility mechanical systems, including HVAC, process cooling water, domestic water, and other facility utility systems. This position serves as the mechanical engineering subject matter expert, providing technical leadership for capital projects, facility upgrades, system reliability improvements, and operational excellence initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in mechanical system design for commercial, industrial, or manufacturing facilities and hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license.

About the role - you will:

Mechanical Systems Engineering




  • Lead the design, specification, and engineering of HVAC systems, including:
  • Air handling units (AHUs)
  • Chilled water systems
  • Cooling towers
  • Heating systems
  • Exhaust and ventilation systems & chemical scrubber
  • Building controls automation, control sequence & controls point list
  • ISO 5, 6 & 7 Cleanroom and critical environment HVAC systems (if applicable)
  • Design, evaluate, and optimize facility utilities systems, including:
  • Domestic water systems
  • Process water systems
  • Cooling water systems
  • Water treatment systems
  • Pumps and distribution networks
  • CDA, PVAC, and Housekeeping vacuum systems
  • Develop engineering calculations, equipment specifications, construction drawings, and design standards.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.



Project Management & Capital Improvements




  • Lead mechanical engineering efforts for capital improvement projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineering consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Review and approve engineering designs, submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Support construction activities, commissioning, startup, and system acceptance.



Facility Operations & Reliability




  • Provide technical support for facility operations and maintenance teams.
  • Investigate equipment failures and recurring system issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop reliability improvement strategies for critical infrastructure systems.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend energy-efficient operational improvements.
  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for mechanical systems.



Compliance & Safety




  • Ensure compliance with building codes, mechanical codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Participate in facility risk assessments and hazard analyses.
  • Support environmental sustainability and energy management initiatives.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, standards, and record drawings.



Technical Leadership




  • Serve as the facility's mechanical engineering subject matter expert.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Develop and maintain facility engineering standards and best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.

About you:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience in industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, data center, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or commercial facilities environments.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Demonstrated experience designing HVAC systems for large or complex facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience designing water distribution, process water, and utility water systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering calculations, specifications, and mechanical design practices.
  • Experience managing engineering and construction projects.



Strong understanding of:




  • ASHRAE standards
  • International Mechanical Code (IMC)
  • International Building Code (IBC)
  • NFPA standards
  • Energy codes and sustainability practices
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.

Your experience includes:

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or high-tech industrial facilities.
  • Experience with central utility plants and chilled water systems.
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) and facility monitoring systems.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and mechanical system modeling software.
  • PMP certification or formal project management experience.

Seagate's Normandale campus, spanning Bloomington and Edina, MN, serves as the global hub for recording head development and manufacturing. The campus offers an on-site cafe, fitness center, wellness programs, indoor walking paths, meditation rooms, and frequent cultural and community events. Numerous dining, shopping, and recreational options are located just minutes away.



The estimated base salary range for this position is $109,470.40 - $159,542.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
