Position description

The Eddleman Quantum Institute (EQI) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), invites applications for the EQI Postdoctoral Fellowship from researchers with demonstrated accomplishments in quantum science and exceptional promise as future leaders in the field. Made possible by a gift from Roy Eddleman, this two-year fellowship aims to advance quantum research and foster collaborations across EQI and UCI.

Outstanding candidates from all EQI research areas are encouraged to apply.

This year, the fellowship is prioritized for experimentalist candidates.

Applicants must be co-sponsored by at least two EQI faculty members. A list of the EQI Faculty and their research areas can be found at the website: Eddleman Quantum Institute. Applicants must contact potential EQI faculty sponsors before the application deadline to discuss research plans and collaboration opportunities.

The fellowship provides for full salary and benefits as well as travel support and relocation costs. Fellows are supported for two years with a start date beginning in 2027.

The EQI Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to contribute to the development of collaborative research in their areas and to engage in EQI educational and outreach activities.

The application must include:

(1) A current CV with a publication list

(2) A research plan that outlines the collaborative research project of the Applicant and at least two EQI co-sponsors (3 page maximum, including figures and references)

(3) The names and contact information for two reference writers who can comment on the applicant's research accomplishments and independence.

(4) The names of two UCI EQI faculty who have agreed to co-sponsor the applicant.

The EQI Postdoctoral Fellowship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant's research accomplishments, independence, quality of the research plan, impact on EQI collaborations, and alignment with EQI's goals.

The goals of EQI are to stimulate the discovery of new quantum phenomena and train future generations of quantum scientists. EQI includes faculty from the UCI Departments of Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
