Job Description

The Veterans Clinic in the School of Law currently has over 225 cases in which we represent veterans in VA disability compensation appeals and discharge upgrades before Department of War boards. The position supports our attorneys (6), law students (15-25 each semester), and staff members (5) in the representation of veteran clients. The primary responsibility of this position is to support administrative and financial activities of the Veteran Clinic.

Duties include the following:

* Provide assistance to Clinic attorneys representing veterans, including preparing general correspondence to Clinic clients, supporters, and others.
* Handle routine administrative matters for the Clinic.
* Maintain the Clinic inventory of supplies, procuring supplies, organization and maintenance of the Clinic space.
* Assist with preparing budgets, financial reports, scheduling travel and preparing travel and expense reports and payments to vendors.
* Assist with coordinating Clinic events and activities, including an annual symposium, continuing legal education programs, and veteran outreach events.
* Maintain the Veterans Clinic calendar.

This position supports our education of law students who get the experience of working with a paralegal which is a fundamental aspect of the practice of law. This position provides necessary support to meet our VA Homeless Veterans Grant requirements. Under this grant, we provide legal representation to over 50 homeless and at-risk veterans. The position analyzes the records and all other types of evidence in these cases. The position prepares correspondence, documents and pleadings for attorney and student review and filing at government agencies and federal trial and appellate courts for our clients in this program.

Shift

8:00 am - 5:00 pm with some flexibility as approved by the Director of the Veterans Clinic.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $20 - $23 per hour

Grade: GGS 006

University Title: Office Support Assistant IV.
