Chemistry Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at Missouri S&T is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Postdoctoral Fellow to join the research group of Dr. Pericles Stavropoulos. The successful candidate will contribute to advanced research projects requiring organic and inorganic synthesis and applications to atom/group-transfer catalysis along with mechanistic elucidation. Key Responsibilities: The successful candidate will design and execute synthetic organic chemistry reactions for the purpose of synthesizing suitable ligands. The candidate will further execute metalation reactions to generate potential catalysts and evaluate their efficacy in C-H amination reactions. The candidate will also participate in mechanistic investigations, involving physical organic/inorganic techniques. Responsibilities include purifying and characterizing reaction products using standard laboratory procedures (e.g., column purification, application of NMR, UV-vis, HPLC, MS, XRD) and maintaining precise laboratory records documenting experimental procedures. The candidate will assist in mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers in the group and take a leading role in ensuring compliance will all safety protocols. The candidate will also participate in writing research manuscripts and grant applications. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. Strong background in organic and inorganic synthesis is required and working knowledge of electrochemistry is desirable. Preferred Qualifications: Candidate will demonstrate a track record of research productivity as evidenced by quality publications in leading roles. Good written and verbal communication skills are expected, as well as demonstrated ability to conduct research independently and collaboratively. Application Materials
