Position Summary

Odyssey has an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician supporting the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) located in Frederick, MD. NMRC's mission is to conduct research, development, tests, and evaluations to enhance the health, safety, and readiness of Navy and Marine Corps personnel in the effective performance of peacetime and contingency missions and to perform other functions as directed by higher authority. NMRC is also in support of and receives guidance from the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED). NMRC includes the command NMRC and its subordinate enterprise commands/units.



Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Support the development and maintenance of a biosafety infrastructure that supports biomedical safety for both biomedical equipment and biological agents.
  • Review the requestor's purchasing package for new or replacement equipment to provide technical feedback. The BMET will not assist with a technical review of requests for contracted medical equipment maintenance services. The BMET will not be involved in decisions or activities which are deemed to be inherently governmental functions.
  • Monitor manufacturer and/or vendor warranties and maintenance agreements, as entered in DMLSS maintenance database.
  • Assist with inspection and enter the service documents of all medical maintenance to verify that the services provided conform to the scheduled or requested services, subject to final GS approval.
  • Assist with equipment acceptance, subject to final GS approval.
    • All newly acquired medical or dental equipment will be inspected by the BMET to ensure that it meets safety standards, manufacturer's specifications, and contract requirements. Minimum inspection requirements will consist of the following:
    • Confirm that the item is free of physical or functional damage caused by improper shipment and/or faulty manufacture.
    • Confirm that two copies of the operator's and service manuals have been provided.
    • Confirm that the item of equipment meets all safety requirements (i.e., ground resistance, leakage current, etc.).
    • Verify that all the equipment delivered meets the requirements of the contract.
    • Training must be provided to operators when a new make or model of equipment is received in the command. The BMET, manufacturer, or vendor must provide this training before placing the unit into service.
  • Assist with the scheduled maintenance program, subject to final GS approval.
  • Equipment Tagging. The BMET will assist with equipment tagging, subject to final GS approval.
  • Perform electrical safety inspections to verify equipment operation.
  • Identify and log equipment unable to be located and generate monthly reports.
  • Assist with entering the required data into the DMLSS' Service Contract (SC) module, subject to final GS approval.
  • Record discrepancies or damage to equipment and deliver equipment to the requisitioning department.
  • Perform all BMET and Medical/Research Equipment Inventory and Accountability dutes per NAVMED P-5132.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.


Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Clearance: Ability to obtain Secret (T3/SF86)

Education: High School graduate

Years of Experience: 4-6 years

  • Prior experience in a military research facility performing biomedical equipment repair services.
  • Familiarity with equipment used for biomedical research.

Certifications: Military BMET Training Certificate of Completion (or) Medical Equipment Manufacturer's Training Course Certificate of Completion (or) Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certificate

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: Secret (T3/SF86)

Education: Some college

Years of experience: 6-10 years

Certifications: Military BMET Training Certificate of Completion (or) Medical Equipment Manufacturer's Training Course Certificate of Completion (or) Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician certificate
