CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineering Designer to join our Highway & Rail Team in Boston, MA; Burlington, MA; Norwell, MA; or Providence, RI. In this senior-level role, you will lead the design and production of complex transportation deliverables supporting urban and rural roadways, intersections, streetscapes, rail lines, and major capital improvements. This is an exciting opportunity to mentor junior designers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate, coordinated solutions that strengthen transportation networks and the communities they serve.



What You'll Do:

    Lead the research, preparation, and production of highway and rail design drawings using industry software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions for roadway, intersection, streetscape, right-of-way, rehabilitation, and rail projects
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior designers, ensuring project drawings are accurate, consistent, coordinated, and aligned with applicable standards
  • Examine complex contract documents and drawings for errors, revising as needed to align with contract specifications and project requirements
  • Support the development of technical reports, material costs, construction estimations, and production schedules for transportation infrastructure projects
  • Conduct project review meetings and prepare project "As-Builts" documentation


What You Bring:

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Engineering Science, or related technical field required
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in document production within the engineering discipline required
  • MassDOT experience strongly preferred
  • Proficient in discipline-based software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative work ethic and strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Expert working knowledge of engineering discipline with strong expertise in design drawing layout

Salary Range:

$48.00 - $58.00

Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
