The Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences (
DMCS) at Rutgers University-New Brunswick is seeking an Instructor to teach an online 3-credit undergraduate course, "Introduction to Oceanography", Course #: 11:628:120:90, during Winter Session 2027 (December 23, 2026 - January 15, 2027), and Summer Session 2027 which has 2 sessions (May 24, 2027-June 17, 2027 & July 6, 2027- July 30, 2027.)
This fully online course introduces undergraduate students to the fundamental concepts and interdisciplinary nature of oceanography, emphasizing large-scale Earth-ocean processes and system interactions. Students explore the geological, physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the ocean and how these disciplines interconnect to shape marine environments and influence global systems.
The course is offered in both Winter and Summer Sessions, conducted entirely online through Rutgers' Canvas learning management system. Instruction combines multimedia content, readings, virtual discussions, and applied exercises to engage students in oceanographic concepts and methods.
Appointment is contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment screening, and sufficient enrollment.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Master's degree or higher in Oceanography, Marine Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Prior teaching experience in higher education, preferably online.
- Strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency with Canvas.

Candidate must have a PhD. Experience in oceanographic field techniques/lessons; experience in remote teaching, multimedia classroom techniques, and online learning management systems (canvas) is required. |
