Job Description: Under general organizational policies and goals established by the Hospital Director and the Governing Board, the Medical Director will serve as the clinical leader for the overall delivery, quality, and safety of all clinical services. This position works with the Hospital Director to establish and execute short and long-term strategic plans for both the hospital and the larger behavioral healthcare continuum for forensic patient populations in Kentucky. The KCPC Forensic Medical Director, in partnership with the Hospital Director, is responsible for recruiting, developing and maintaining qualified medical and psychiatric staff guided by best practice principles. This position will conduct at least annual performance reviews in compliance with licensure and accreditation standards and will serve as Chair of the Medical Staff Committee. This position will serve as a liaison to outside medical and psychiatric partners including other state-operated or -contracted psychiatric hospitals and other regional healthcare entities in addition to a consultative role on forensic healthcare practices to community partners as appropriate. This position will manage referrals from outside hospitals, court orders for inpatient and outpatient care, admission and discharge processes, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up care for medical conditions of patients, as well as attending to any emergency need throughout the entire hospital as needed. Collaborates to develop programs and policies that improve the quality of the hospital's services; and efficiently utilizes available resources to maximize administration of quality evidence-based care. Must always present self in a professional manner. Must be able to work professionally with colleagues from outside organizations. Performs all tasks and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner; other related duties as assigned. This position is required to understand and follow all patient safety policies and procedures, to modernize such policies and procedures as needed, to participate in required patient safety training programs, to support the application of National Patient Safety Goals at this hospital, abide by the Medical Staff By-Laws and Physician Procedure Manual and to do all that is reasonable to prevent injury to patients, employees, the hospital, and the general public.
