The Position

Concrete Finisher I's work as members of a crew doing flat work such as repairing or replacing damaged sections of sidewalks, curbs, streets and related structures. Competitive candidates will be technically competent in all aspects of concrete finishing work, including job safety and proficiency in using and operating concrete finishing tools and equipment. There is currently one regular vacancy.

The ideal candidate will be prepared to:

*Demonstrate skill and proficiency in safely and efficiently securing worksites, preparing surfaces, and forming, placing, smoothing and finishing concrete;

*Safely and effectively load, unload, secure and transport various materials and equipment;

*Safely and efficiently operate equipment such as pavement breakers, concrete saws and light trucks;

*Interact effectively with the public and other District staff.

The salary range is $8,008 per month increasing to $8,408, $8,828 and $9,269 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Requirements

1.Completion of the eighth grade and either:

2a. One year of general concrete work in which the major duties have been concrete placement and finishing or;

2b. One year of employment as a Utility Laborer with the District

In addition to the requirements listed above, candidates must be physically capable of doing strenuous outdoor work, operating and using construction and concrete finishing tools and equipment such as pavement breakers and pneumatic jackhammers; transporting material, such as broken concrete by wheelbarrow; and lifting objects, such as sacks of sand or cement. These activities typically involve lifting and moving objects up to 100 pounds and on occasion in excess of 100 pounds. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and work overtime as needed. Candidates must possess a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

The Selection Process

1.Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, October 16, 2026. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2.Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3.Application materials will be reviewed and those applicants determined to be best qualified will be invited to a hands-on performance test, tentatively scheduled for early/mid-November 2026.

4.Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5.The probation period for this position is 6 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6.All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
