Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Academic Affairs, led by the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, comprises the university's colleges, schools and libraries, along with other academic support and administrative units. The Department of Clinical Laboratory Science prepares students to provide quality clinical laboratory services through education, applied laboratory training, and clinical practice that support patient care and diagnostic testing.
Primary Purpose of Position
The position serves as the department's student laboratory manager, which includes preparation of all required laboratory reagents, media and supplies, set up and take down of all student laboratory sessions, maintenance of laboratory supply and equipment inventories, maintenance, use, and repair of laboratory instrumentation, and service as the department's safety officer, which includes proper disposal of biohazardous waste and chemicals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the student laboratories, including set-up/takedown of laboratory sessions as directed; preparation/procurement of test samples, reagents, microbiological media, and other supplies; maintenance of laboratory equipment; assist students as needed; operate within the constraints of a biohazard safety level II (BSL-2) laboratory, including proper waste disposal and using a steam sterilizer (60%)
  • Provide general administrative support, including budget, travel, and other departmental or student-related needs (20%)
  • Maintain inventory of reagents, supplies, and equipment (15%)
  • Serve as departmental safety officer (5%)
