Job Summary

The Warehouse Engineering Manager is responsible for optimizing the intersection between the physical warehouse and the system-configured warehouse to improve safety, productivity, capacity, space utilization, and operating cost.


This hands-on technical leadership role leads warehouse layout, slotting, labor standards governance, storage configuration, warehouse process routings, work-zone design, pick-path optimization, and related operational master data across assigned distribution facilities. The role also provides technical direction and development to junior OPEX team members.

Primary Duties

  • Leads warehouse engineering activities across assigned distribution facilities, including layout, slotting, material flow, storage configuration, and capacity optimization.
  • Optimizes pick paths, putaway zones, work zones, racking configurations, and storage density to improve productivity, travel, replenishment activity, and space utilization.
  • Manages labor standards governance, including standards maintenance, validation, and performance analysis.
  • Maintains accurate AutoCAD layouts and develops warehouse designs supporting current operations and future capacity requirements.
  • Monitors changes in product mix, volume, and velocity and adjusts warehouse configuration and operating parameters accordingly.
  • Oversees new-part setup, warehouse process routings, and related operational master data to maintain alignment between physical operations and system configuration.
  • Develops capacity, labor, throughput, productivity, and space-utilization analyses to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
  • Leads structured problem-solving and corrective-action efforts using methods such as 8D, 5 Why, PDCA, and root-cause analysis.
  • Develops technical recommendations, scopes, and business cases for warehouse improvements and capital needs.
  • Supports and implements projects involving warehouse layout, storage systems, material flow, automation, routing, slotting, and workflow changes.
  • Partners with Operations and cross-functional teams to implement improvements and validate sustained results.
  • Establishes and maintains warehouse engineering standards, drawings, tools, and documentation across assigned facilities.
  • Provides technical direction, coaching, and development to junior OPEX team members.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, industrial engineering principles, material flow, and distribution design.
  • Demonstrated experience with warehouse slotting, layout optimization, storage systems, and capacity planning.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or comparable warehouse or facility layout software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate operational data into practical warehouse improvements.
  • Ability to develop and interpret capacity, labor, productivity, throughput, and space-utilization models.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in structured problem-solving and corrective-action methods.
  • Ability to develop technical recommendations and business cases and lead projects from analysis through implementation and sustainment.
  • Strong project management, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to influence Operations and cross-functional partners and work effectively across multiple distribution facilities.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with labor-management systems, engineered labor standards, warehouse management systems, operational master data, or warehouse automation preferred.
  • Experience with racking systems, warehouse capacity modeling, or new-product/new-part setup processes preferred.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to regularly work within active warehouse environments, including extended walking and standing. Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed in office and distribution center environments and may include varying temperatures, elevated noise levels, and active material-handling equipment. Travel of approximately 10-20% is required.

Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in warehouse engineering, industrial engineering, distribution design, slotting, supply chain engineering, or a comparable operational role required.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $83,900.00 to $124,800.00. This role is also eligible for a bonus. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will depend on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal pay equity. Compensation decisions are made based on the specific facts and circumstances of each role and candidate.
