Summary: Providing leadership and motivation within Market on Melrose, to ensure consistent and world-class customer experiences through the superior show of quality and friendly customer service. Training and supporting staff to be safe, friendly, and efficient. Supervise and perform all functions related to sales and customer service, while operating an efficient and profitable business within established guidelines and policies.

Essential Functions:


  1. Observe, evaluate, and coach employees to consistently deliver world-class customer service, both internally and externally.
  2. Oversee and manage cash payments, deposits, and daily store transactions. Maintain accurate records and produce sales reports, ensuring proper tracking of overages and shortages.
  3. Assist with customer orders by performing cashier functions or providing support at the guest care desk as necessary.
  4. Assist in supporting the daily operations of the Guest Care department to ensure smooth workflows and efficiency.
  5. Promote a customer-focused environment, ensuring that all customers receive outstanding service, and that the store is recognized for excellence in customer experience, using the tag line "Thank you for choosing the Market on Melrose" at every opportunity.
  6. Manage staffing, including hiring, training, scheduling, and forecasting labor needs, ensuring proper store coverage.
  7. Support team members' ongoing professional development, ensuring that all team members meet required certifications and complete necessary training within established timelines.
  8. Implement coaching and corrective actions as needed, ensuring compliance with company policies and fostering a productive work environment.
  9. Facilitate internal and external communications, ensuring smooth operation and addressing any issues that arise.
  10. Ensure safety guidelines are strictly followed to protect both customers and employees and to safeguard company assets.
  11. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and food safety guidelines.
  12. Maintain in-depth knowledge of products and advertising, responding to customer inquiries and making recommendations, including offering product samples.
  13. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.
  14. Attends in-service and related training as assigned.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by Management.
  16. Adheres to all Goodwill personnel policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and skilled in guest relations.
  • Solid understanding of store operations required.
  • Ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements of the job.
  • Leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Ability to use technical information to solve problems.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:


  • At least two years of experience in supermarket management or a comparable retail environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, or related field preferred. A combination of education and professional experience directly related to this position may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.
  • Certified Food Safety Manager accreditation through the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals or similar organization is required or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment, with ongoing compliance throughout employment.
  • Drug screen collector certified; training provided.

Special Requirements:


  • Must provide cell phone for specified work responsibilities including the use of a phone-based application for authentication
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide proof of insurance is required to drive personal vehicle on company business. Additionally, an acceptable motor vehicle record based on Goodwill guidelines is required to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen prior to employment.
  • A background check required during employment based on company policy or specific job responsibilities.

  • Able to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move up to forty (40) pounds with no support regularly. For weight over forty (40) pounds, request additional team member assistance as needed.

Work Environment:


  • Fast-paced grocery store setting
  • Ability to travel minimally required for trainings or meetings.
  • Open available to work all hours of operation, including weekends, holidays, and occasional extended hours.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to varying temperatures, such as refrigeration areas and heat, cold and adverse weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate.
