| Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The goal of the
UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (

HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity.
HPDP is part of a network of 26
CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States.
The
UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (
HPDP) was established in 1985. The Center's mission is to improve the health of people in North Carolina and the Southeast through interdisciplinary research, teaching, and public service. Particular emphasis is paid to the needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged populations. The Center is supported by funding from the five Health Affairs schools, the Office of the Associate Provost for Health Affairs, federal competitive research grants, private foundation grants, and contractual agreements.
The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (
CPCRN) is a national network of academic, public health, and community partners who work together to reduce the burden of cancer, especially among those disproportionately affected. Its members conduct community-based participatory cancer research across its eight network centers, crossing academic affiliations and geographic boundaries. The
CPCRN is a thematic research network of the Prevention Research Centers (PRCs), which is CDC's flagship program for preventing and controlling chronic diseases
The Consortium for Cancer Implementation Science (
CCIS), a national network of more than 1,000 researchers, clinicians, and community partners, focuses on cancer control priorities, cross-collaboration, and innovative solutions in implementation science (IS). Originally established by the National Cancer Institute (
NCI) in 2019,
CCIS brings the field together to address key challenges, identify and develop new areas of investigation, and advance the IS agenda in cancer control. |
