Lead EKG Technician

Our Lead EKG Technician assists with daily department operations, coordinates patient scheduling, and serves as a vital clinical resource for the team. Balancing direct patient care with administrative and operational oversight, you will work closely with the Manager to design and maintain education programs for new and existing employees. We view our imaging leadership as a critical cornerstone of the care plan, driving the protocols and mentorship that directly elevate patient outcomes. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to shape the future of diagnostic care through teamwork, compassion, and technical excellence!

A Typical Day

  • Coordinating daily operations, work assignments, and patient scheduling to optimize department workflow, manage report turn-around time, and maximize patient throughput.
  • Assisting the supervisor with system work queues (WQs) to ensure EKGs, cardiac monitors, and stress tests are processed and interpreted within a reasonable time frame.
  • Performing clinical EKG assignments and assisting with Stress Testing by explaining procedures to patients, applying electrodes correctly, recognizing EKG variations in real time, and securing physician assistance when needed.
  • Supervising, onboarding, and mentoring new students, CCTs, and employees, including leading weekly progress meetings and verifying all competency and orientation checklists are completed within the 90-day introductory period.
  • Partnering with the Manager to create and maintain educational programs and annual mandatory competency documentation for all staff.
  • Reviewing electrode position findings for chart records to identify deviations from normal immediately, while ensuring patient records are meticulously maintained.
  • Managing department inventory and asset readiness by securing necessary supplies, monitoring deliveries/returns, maintaining "just-in-time" inventory levels, and ensuring all equipment is properly maintained.
  • Enhancing the patient and family experience through unit rounding and phone discussions to identify concerns, troubleshoot issues in real time, and loop in hospital leadership or the healthcare team (nursing, physicians, directors) for follow-up.
  • Delivering age-appropriate care across all patient populations and cooperating with physicians to provide all necessary data for their professional and administrative duties.

This role might be for you if

  • You are a natural educator and clinical resource who thrives in a hybrid role blending direct patient testing with staff mentorship, training, and competency tracking.
  • You are an operational problem-solver who excels at managing schedules, streamlining workflows, ensuring revenue integrity, and addressing logistical deficiencies in real time.
  • You collaborate seamlessly with frontline staff, physicians, and hospital leadership to facilitate clear communication and ensure all patient concerns are fully resolved.
  • You prioritize organizational excellence, setting a high bar for maintaining safety standards, documentation accuracy, and equipment readiness.
