What We Do
Dynamic Ratings is an ISO-certified company dedicated to providing monitoring, control, and communication solutions for our customers in the utility industry. We provide condition-based monitoring products and services to reduce outages, increase safety, and gain visibility of electrical equipment throughout the power grid, serving industries and communities worldwide.

The Role
We are looking for an Embedded Software Team Lead to guide the team that builds the software running on our embedded Linux monitoring platform. You will lead engineers across our Melbourne, Australia and Sussex, Wisconsin sites, set technical direction, and stay close enough to the code to review it, shape it and, when needed, write it.

This is a role for an experienced embedded developer who enjoys growing people as much as solving hard technical problems, such as turning real-world sensor data into analytics, alarms and insights that utilities act on.

What You'll Do
Lead the Team
  • Lead the embedded software team across both sites: Work with the Engineering Director, Project Manager and other teams to set priorities, plan and track project schedules, and remove blockers.
  • Coach and mentor developers through code reviews, regular feedback and career development.
  • Take part in interviewing, hiring, performance reviews and team planning.

Stay Technical
  • Design, develop and review C and C++ applications on our custom embedded Linux platform including analytics and alarm logic.
  • Oversee support for industrial communication interfaces including DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus and CAN bus.
  • Set coding, testing and documentation standards, and drive unit testing and performance optimization.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, QA and DevOps teams on releases and integration.

What You'll Bring
  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 or more years of embedded systems development experience, with a record of delivering shipped products.
  • Demonstrated experience leading people or projects, formally as a team lead or informally as a senior engineer who mentors and directs others.
  • Strong proficiency in C and C++.
  • Solid Linux knowledge, including Bash scripting, and experience on embedded Linux platforms.
  • Understanding of shared memory IPC and multithreading.
  • Experience with software design, the full development lifecycle, and quality practices such as code review and unit testing.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with distributed teams across time zones.
  • Familiarity with project tools and methods such as Wrike, Kanban and Agile.
  • Experience with DNP3, IEC 61850 or Modbus in a utility or industrial setting is a plus.
  • Scripting in Bash, Perl or Python is a plus.
  • Familiarity with XML and JSON configuration parsing and schema validation is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of power transformers, circuit breakers and electrical systems is a plus.
