Fleet Vehicle Mechanic

FULL-TIME Opportunities available at Tempe Base Location

$20.00-$40.00 per hour Based on Experience

We are hiring a Fleet Mechanic who provides preventive maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles as assigned by Fleet Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education
  • Must have four years of verifiable experience as a Class C - Associate Mechanic, and automotive knowledge and skills necessary to perform maintenance and repairs on Company vehicles
  • ASE and/or EVT Certifications strongly preferred
  • Must have a current and valid Arizona driver's license
  • Must have a full set of personal tools needed to complete basic automotive repairs:
    • Rachets: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive
    • Sockets: SAE and Metric, Standard and Deep
    • Extensions: Short, Medium, Long - 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" Drive
    • 1/2" Drive Impact Wrench that can R &R wheels
    • Combination Wrenches: 1/4" thru 1-1/8" and 6MM thru 24MM
    • Screwdrivers: Flat blade, small/med/large & Phillips, #0, #1, #2
    • Pliers: Channel lock, long nose, linesman, wire strippers, crimpers
    • Punches: Straight, Center Punch, chisels
    • Hammers: Ball pein, dead blow, soft, sledge
    • Pickle Forks
    • Oil Filter Wrench
    • Test light, LED (Power probe or similar is fine)
    • Multimeter: Voltage-OHMS-AMPS
    • Mechanics Toolbox on Wheels

Responsibilities:

  • Perform front line mechanic inspections, preventive maintenance and electrical repairs on both diesel and gasoline vehicles per Rural Metro Fleet Policy and Procedures
  • Respond to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested
  • Complete all required vehicle repair and maintenance paperwork and documentation using Rural Metro repair work orders and Rural Metro Fleet Maintenance Software (RTA)
  • Respond promptly to road calls, accurately diagnose, and perform quality repairs
  • Thoroughly document vehicle repairs and maintenance including a complete accounting of all labor hours, parts, and materials used
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a respectful working relationship with all fleet and operations personnel; display professional conduct with outside suppliers and contacts
  • Identify and report existing and potential safety concerns to Fleet Supervision
