Cardiac Nurse Practitioner

Reports to the Practice Manager and works under the supervision of the Physician, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for
ensuring patient preparation and supporting the physician with clinical duties.

Job Functions
Diagnosing, treating, evaluating and managing acute and chronic illness and disease (e.g. diabetes, high a blood pressure)
a Obtaining medical histories
a Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic studies (e.g., ETT's, Stress Echo's, Myoviews, EKGs)
a Prescribing physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments
a Prescribing drugs for acute and chronic illness (extent of prescriptive authority varies by state regulations)
a Providing care for patients in acute and critical care settings
a Counseling and educating patients on health behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options.
a Assist in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
a EKG, Holter application, analysis and downloading to offsite company, and Event monitor applications.
a Co-managing congestive heart failure patients & PPM/ICD patients
a Follow up calls to patients with results following physician's evaluation of tests
a Seeing both inpatient and outpatients
a Documenting care in a medical record
a Responds to patient calls regarding medical questions and handles accordingly
a Maintains inventory of all medical supplies and report to office manager to order as appropriate
a Maintains and supports patient's rights to care, privacy and respect.
Minimum Qualifications
a- Education
a Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Master's or Doctoral Degree
a- Experience
a National board certification, 3+years of individualized care in Cardiac medicine
Licensure a- and/or Certification
a Current licensure as nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
a National certification with recertification as required every six years
a ACLS certification required
a BLS Health care provider required
a Must be able to attain and maintain privileges at Emerson Hospital as Nurse Practitioner.
