Research Associate who participates in planning, design, execution, and management of all in-vivo research studies and activities in a research laboratory investigating translational pre-clinical studies in the development of AAV, drug-loaded liposomes, mRNA-based nanoparticles-based gene therapies for central nervous system disorders such as Parkinsons disease, Huntingtons disease, AADC deficiency, Alzheimers disease, lysosomal storage disorders, hearing loss, and depression in the Department of Neurological Surgery; participates in the execution of ongoing research projects; assists in stereotaxic brain surgery in rodents amp; non-human primates, including pre- and post-operative care; proficient in specialized necropsy techniques in small and large animals with the ability to lead necropsy function in the lab; leads efficient and high-quality sample collection, processing, tissue preservation and tissue trimming according to study protocols; assists with histology duties such as tissue processing, embedding, frozen sections, sorting, cutting, filing, reagent preparation, special stains, and staining slides of tissue samples; collects, analyzes, and interprets research data; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; collects and maintains preclinical study data effectively and efficiently for FDA submission; creates and keeps detailed and organized records of all in-vivo research activities across various studies; performs PCR and electrophoresis gels for mice genotypic; has extensive knowledge in murine animal model experimentation, including injections (intramuscular, intraperitoneal, intravenous (tail vein and RO)), as well as blood collection techniques including cardiac puncture and cheek bleed, and tissue collection; murine colony management including breeding and weaning, mice tagging identification, monthly cage counting, record keeping, and euthanization; maintains accuracy of and compliance to IACUC protocol and ensures GLP conditions in IND-enabling in-vivo research studies; works closely with laboratory veterinarians and IACUC committee and staff to efficiently update the IACUC protocol as new studies are proposed and assists collaborators with IACUC protocol creation and adherence; manages lab spaces in accordance with IACUC and EHS regulations and leads IACUC and controlled substance inspections; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles, and other documents; assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; provides updates to PI and laboratory manager on progress of research.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelors Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 1-3 years of relevant experience required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required. Experience in a biological/health science research capacity is preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen.
