Job Title: Assistant Cook

FLSA Status: Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Food Service Manager

Rate of Pay:$20/hr

Closing Date: 11/23/2024

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

    Assistant Cook Responsibilities:

    The Food Service Manager will be responsible for preparing and cooking all meals in a manner appropriate for serving groups with various dietary requests.




    • Cook food and bake baked goods under the guidance of Food Service Manager.
    • Must maintain a safe and sanitary work environment that passes all health codes and food safety requirements.
    • Responsible for the overall appearance of the kitchen.
    • Keep all equipment clean and in good condition after each use.
    • Report all needed repairs to Food Service Manager.
    • Must be able to create, rotate, and order food in preparation of weekly menus.
    • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
    • Follow proper receiving, storage, and preparation techniques to ensure that all food items are maintained at a high quality until consumed.
    • Work with Food Service Manager to analyze food and materials costs, looking for cheaper options while keeping quality, efficiencies, and inventory control in mind.
    • Keep records following the law, policies, and procedures.
    • Under guidance of Food Service Manager, responsible for overseeing summer staff and other staff helping in the kitchen and dining room.
    • At discretion of Food Service Manager, cook and manage meals on your own at times.
    • Be available for food prep, cleaning, closing kitchen at various hours throughout the day.
    • Prep dining hall for groups, and clean dining hall/dining hall bathrooms after groups leave.
    • Dishes and cleanup of dining hall and kitchen areas.


    Other Duties




    • Perform weekly housekeeping duties when needed.
    • Assist with general cleaning duties around camp.
    • Assist Property Manager with maintaining general building maintenance.
    • Assist with the organization and clean-up of camp at the end of each usage.
    • Assist with the recruitment and interviews of temporary kitchen help and summer kitchen help.
    • Maintain all kitchen and dining hall equipment, including inspections and annual services.
    • Assist with planning food budget for summer and year-round groups.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.


    Education and Work Experience:



    • High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
    • Work experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities required.
    • 2 years Kitchen Experience preferred.



    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:



    • Must obtain a Food Handler's Card as well as SERV Safe Manager Certification and will be responsible for following all guidelines of the food handler's manual.
    • The ability to speak and write the English language with professional-level skills is required.



    Software-related skills: Microsoft Word and Excel and Outlook preferred but not required.

    Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift 25 pounds, ability to access and produce information from a computer, ability to understand written information. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
