Position description

"Exposing Profiling in Airway disease to uNravel Determinants of disease (EXPAND) Asthma Cohort (EXPAND) Study". The EXPAND study is investigating the relationship between psychosocial stress, exposomic interactions, and asthma pathophysiology. EXPAND is a case-control study of asthma and other outcomes in Richmond adolescents. The study aims to understand associations between estimated air pollutant exposures, psychosocial stress, and health outcomes in adolescents aged 8-16 years old with physician-diagnosed asthma. The study involves the collection of multiple types of data, including demographic, medical history, measures of psychosocial stress, handling and shipment of biospecimen (nasal and oral swab, blood), and physiological testing (anthropometry, blood pressure measurement, lung function testing). The research specialist will work closely with faculty, staff, and trainees in the ZSFG Pulmonary Division to ensure the successful execution of this research study through literature reviews, interpretation of air quality data collected, and interpretation of interview data. The research specialist will perform independently or with general direction at the fully operational journey level of the series to execute, manage, and coordinate research protocols as they relate to air quality monitoring, as directed by the Principal Investigator (PI).

The specialist's duties may include performing literature reviews, observing and supporting installing, maintaining, and or troubleshooting air quality monitoring equipment at various study sites; collect air quality data, including particulate matter (PM); calibrate and troubleshoot monitoring equipment to ensure accurate data collection. The specialist will also be expected to collect and maintain accurate and detailed records of air quality and health data, enter and manage data in electronic databases, and perform statistical analyses and interpret research findings related to air quality and asthma outcomes.

Required qualifications:

* Must have (or in process of obtaining) at least a bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Public Health, Biology).

* Must have (or in process of obtaining) at least a minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental health research or air quality monitoring.

* Proficiency in data management and statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R).

* Strong organizational and time management skills.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment.

* Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

* Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent, effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, and other departments and outside institutions; and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.

* Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.

* Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability. Willingness to work during some evening and weekend hours required.

* Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.

Preferred qualifications:

* A Master's degree is preferred.

* Experience with environmental health,air quality monitoring, and/or respiratory diseases is highly desirable.

* Knowledge of public health topics.

* Certification in clinical research (e.g., CCRC, CCRP) is a plus.
