Job Summary Multi-functional job requires incumbents to be cross-trained to perform Unit Secretary duties as well as at least one other clinical support job at least 20% of time in each role. Cross training may be in jobs such as Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, and/or Monitor Technician. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provides excellent customer service while providing clerical and administrative services; monitoring, ordering, and stocking supplies; and maintaining a safe work environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Additional functions performed under the direct supervisions of a Registered Nurse may include one or more of the following duties; observing cardiac monitors to identify abnormal heart rhythms; data collection related to patient status; performance of basic nursing procedures; monitoring; measuring and documentation of patient responses; performing and/or assisting with treatments and procedures; assists with maintenance of patient care equipment. The % of time performing clinical support may vary from unit to unit, but at least 20% of the time the individual will function in a clinical support role. Accountabilities Provides patient care as delegated by the RN including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile soaks, application of sterile simple dressings and non sterile simple dressings, perineal care, removal of foley catheters, basic ostomy care, nasal cannula, phlebotomy, EKG's and incentive spirometry. Assists with casting and splinting. Completes orders per established protocol and under the direction of the RN. Performs data collection including vital signs, fluid intake and outake and basic and sterile specimen collection. Properly documents and maintains data on medical record and informs RN of activities performed, observations of patients and changes in patient status. Charts all observations, clinical data, and procedures performed in EMR. Performs point of care testing as trained and delegated by RN. Reports lab values to RN. Assists patients with activities of daily living. Assists the patient care team with transporting patients to diagnostic studies and to their floor assignments. Assists with positioning and ambulating patient. Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated. Provides and documents comfort and non-pharmacological pain management measures. Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Qualifications No Experience required. One (1) year of experience in Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomist or Medical Corpsman is preferred. Education - Job-related course work such as Nursing Assistant, PCT, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Technology or Phlebotomy preferred. Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses Licensed or certified in field of training (Nursing Assistant, CMA, EMT, Paramedic, Surgical Tech, Phlebotomy, etc.) In Lieu of In lieu of education and licensure/certification above, will accept medical corpsman military training.
