Description

The Kettenbach lab is seeking a Research Scientist at the PhD level to support collaborative proteomics and phosphoproteomics analyses, perform independent research on a phosphoprotein phosphatase-oriented project, and work with graduate students as needed. The Research Scientist will carry out established wet lab protocols, validate new workflows, and will become an integral part of our highly collaborative team. The preferred candidates will have a strong understanding of proteomic and phosphoproteomic LC-MS/MS technologies.

NOTE: This position is dependent on the availability of sponsored funding




  • Execute wet-lab experiments using established protocols with minimal oversight.


  • Assist with the implementation of novel workflows.


  • Work with electronic systems for sample tracking, data entry and managing collaborative projects.


  • Work in a collaborative environment and participate in team meetings.


  • Be present during normal business hours (9a-5p), with occasional work after hours.


  • Additional responsibilities include as appropriate:




    • Participate in discussions with researchers involving experimental design and data interpretation.






    • Become familiar with all proteomics technologies used by the laboratory and serve as the secondary contact for collaborative investigators.






    • Present at local, regional, and national meetings as appropriate.
    • Engage in professional development opportunities such as workshops and courses to acquire new skills.





Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:



  • PhD
  • Proven organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, taking initiative to advance projects.
  • Demonstrated experience with biochemical, and cellular and molecular biology protocols and working in a research lab setting among undergraduate and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and communicate effectively with our users.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and interact with all levels of staff and management.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in a collaborative role on multi-investigator projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mass spectrometry-based peptide identification and quantification technologies, including but not limited to microscale capillary liquid chromatography systems, data-dependent and -independent tandem mass spectrometry of peptides, label-free and isobaric tagging-based peptide quantification, associated sample preparation workflows and curation and analysis of large-scale proteomics datasets using best practices in false discovery rate control.
  • Basic bioinformatics skills and comfort with a Linux command line interface.
