Position Summary:
A component mission of the Office is to manage and market the University's knowledge-based
and Intellectual Property (IP) assets for the social and economic benefit of the University. The assets, which encompass faculty
and staff, an extensive R&D capacity and capability,
incubation and experimental facilities and IP
portfolios, are marketed to the external corporate world, as individual IP licenses or more importantly as components of sustainable partnerships that include licenses,
collaborative translational research agreements and contracts, etc.

Essential Functions:
- Market University's IP assets establishing licensing and partnership opportunities with private sector entities.
- Proactively build and maintain productive relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Effective management of marketing IP portfolios.
- Work with the Technology Transfer Office (TTO team) to optimize the outcomes of IP acquisition, marketing, licensing and business development processes.
- Develop & manage a portfolio of invention disclosures; assess potential commercial value of IP assists at various stages of acquisition and marketing processes; recommend and initiate appropriate actions regarding further development or abandonment of related acquisition or related business processes.
- Negotiate and execute business agreements for further development towards licensing, partnerships, and commercialization with potential return of the investment to University; manage the administrative requirements, including: IIA's, NDA's, MTA's, licensing agreements, etc.
- Develop strategies, policies and procedures needed to attract private sector entities into relationships with the University.
- Engage with private sector to expand networks, understand market trends, obtain feedback on technologies, and to promote University research, faculty opportunities, and partnerships.
- Provide educational programs and outreach about current processes and available resources to internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the seamless integration of TTO programs, and services with the Office of Research and other units as needed.
- Contribute as a senior member of the institutional TTO including the IP and EDLA committees.
- Perform job-related duties, as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field and six years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
- Experience in business development, including the development, preparation, negotiation, review, and execution of a wide range of business contracts.
- In depth knowledge and consistent application of research and business ethics preferred.
- Knowledge of U.S. patent law (including procurement process) and experience in development, preparation, negotiation, review, and execution of a wide ranges of networking, marketing, business and enterprise development activities.
- Knowledge with consistent applications of research and business ethics.
- Effective organizational, interpersonal, analytical, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate internally with diverse constituents, the University community and with potential external partners.
- Experience in establishing business partnerships and innovative deals with private sector entities preferred.
- Knowledge and appreciation of business concepts and requirements as applicable to a large academic, research institution preferred.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
