Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our Inpatient Psychiatry team at Inova Fairfax Hospital. This role involves providing advanced psychiatric care to patients within a dynamic and collaborative inpatient setting. As a PMHNP, you will play a crucial role in the mental health and well-being of patients who are facing acute psychiatric crises, requiring both medical and therapeutic interventions. In this position, you will:
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and develop treatment plans tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
- Manage both acute and chronic psychiatric conditions through medication management, psychotherapy, and crisis intervention.
- Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Participate in daily rounds, providing input on treatment plans, discharge planning, and long-term care strategies.
- Offer patient and family education on mental health conditions, treatment plans, and lifestyle modifications that support mental health.
- Engage in quality improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and care processes.
- Stay informed on the latest research and best practices in psychiatric care, ensuring that patients receive the most up-to-date and evidence-based treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and formulate differential diagnoses.
- Design, implement, and adjust individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring patient responses and adjusting as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for patients experiencing acute psychiatric episodes.
- Maintain thorough and timely clinical documentation, adhering to Inova's policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contributing to case discussions and treatment planning.
- Act as a resource for patients, families, and staff on psychiatric and mental health issues.
Qualifications:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatric/Mental Health.
- Active and unrestricted Virginia RN and NP licenses.
- Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a psychiatric/mental health setting, with inpatient experience preferred.
- Strong clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
