Mary Washington Healthcare's (MWHC) Internal Medicine residency and Transitional Year program are seeking a full-time, board-certified, ambulatory-based academic faculty member for its Internal Medicine Residency clinic in Fredericksburg, Va. The Internal Medicine physician will provide evidence-based, efficient patient care services, as well as resident and student teaching, mentoring, and effective supervision. This role will directly care for ambulatory patients in the faculty outpatient practice and supervise the care provided to ambulatory patients by house staff in the resident outpatient practice.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Direct care for ambulatory patients in the faculty outpatient practice
  • Supervise the care provided to ambulatory patients by residents in the outpatient practice
  • Improve the quality and efficiency of ambulatory care at Mary Washington Healthcare
  • Work within MWHC and with other departments to further the effective management of ambulatory patients after hospital discharge.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL

  • Provide direct clinical care to ambulatory patients with approximately 70% teaching and 30% private practice.
  • Comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work, including credentialing, documentation, and billing.
  • Office-based procedural skills are preferred but not required. A willingness to pursue further training in office-based procedures is highly desired.

TEACHING

  • Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor for residents pursuing primary care.
  • Supervise and teach house staff in the resident outpatient practice to promote evidence-based care.
  • Participate in learning activities such as morning reports, clinic academic half day, and other formal educational programs for learners.

SCHOLARY ACTIVITY

  • Participate in resident-based research projects or quality improvement projects according to skills, interest, and IRB approvals.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to patients required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in group situations and respond to questions from individuals and groups required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, legal documents, or governmental regulations required.
