The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Department of Emergency Medicine, the Rutgers Brain Health Institute ( BHI; brainhealthinstitute.rutgers.edu), and the Rutgers Addiction Research Center ( RARC; addiction.rutgers.edu) are recruiting a tenure track faculty member at the Associate or Assistant Professor level with expertise in addiction, substance use, or overdose. We are particularly interested in candidates with research programs in opioid and/or alcohol addiction.
The Department is an academic clinical department at RBHS-New Jersey Medical School in Newark that provides clinical services in the Emergency Department at University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The department has extensive expertise in addiction medicine, medical toxicology, and public health and policy implications of epidemiology of opioids and other drugs. We have extensive clinical support for translational efforts and the ability to build interdisciplinary collaborative efforts. With the Rutgers Institute for Translational Medicine and Science, an active NIH CTSA, and affiliation with Barnabas Health, the largest hospital network in the state of New Jersey, Rutgers offers unique opportunities for participant recruitment and clinical trials to speed the translation of research discoveries into improved patient care.
BHI has over 300 neuroscience faculty labs engaged in basic and clinical research, and proximity to New York, Princeton, and Philadelphia neuroscience communities, and offers tremendous collaborative opportunities and core facilities to support and grow an active research program. The RARC is an initiative of the BHI and is a research center that brings together researchers from across the Rutgers campuses, medical schools, and health systems for collaborative, interdisciplinary work focused on tackling addiction. With over 150 faculty who work across the domains of Basic Science; Epidemiology, Etiology, & Prevention; Treatment & Recovery; and Public Policy, the RARC is the only comprehensive addiction center in New Jersey.

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants must have a doctoral degree, and a research program with currently active federal funding. Applicants with an MD or MD/PhD are particularly encouraged to apply. The applicants must have an active federally supported research program in addiction medicine that intersects with the field of medical toxicology and/or emergency care. Candidates at the Associate Professor level should have a national scientific reputation, current research funding and a history of mentorship and leadership.
