General Responsibilities
This posting is a pool for those interested in teaching developmental English ( ENGL 090 and 095), college level composition ( ENGL 121), literature, and/or information literacy ( INFO 100) courses offered at HCC. These courses cover a variety of reading and writing skills as well as researching and using information. Developmental courses may require a lab instructor to assist with instruction and student feedback. The department chair/coordinators will review applicants for these positions when a need arises.
ENGL 090 and ENGL 095 are designed to teach students the academic literacy skills required for college-level coursework at a fundamental and advanced level. Students will read college-level texts, exercise a variety of comprehension strategies, and write for academic purposes.
ENGL 121 teaches students to develop and apply rhetorical knowledge for creating effective text-based communication. Students develop critical inquiry and multi-stage writing processes in order to contribute productively, effectively, and ethically to the social and collaborative practices of academic and other discourses.
INFO 100 teaches students a core of information literacy and critical thinking skills that will transfer to other coursework and will help them to reach academic and professional goals. Students will learn and refine strategies for college success and will strengthen their capacity for effective academic and professional communication and use of information resources.
Adjunct faculty may teach 1-3 courses each semester, depending on schedule and availability. At HCC, adjunct faculty are invited to participate in professional development (including Faculty and Professional Learning Community), and there may be opportunities to engage in certain faculty teams or special projects.
