Job Description:

Perkins Coie's nationally recognized Trademark, Copyright, Internet & Advertising practice is seeking a highly motivated Intake Paralegal Specialist to join its offices. This position will assist lawyers, paralegals, and other business professionals primarily with new work intake and transfer duties. Additionally, assistance in the clearance and prosecution of U.S. and foreign trademark and copyright matters, including searches, enforcement, and due diligence will be required.

In addition, as a member of the Perkins Coie professional support staff team, this position is responsible for promoting and maintaining the goodwill and reputation of the Firm. In this capacity, the Intake Paralegal Specialist is expected to maintain the highest level of professional conduct and confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

These essential functions are primary job duties that incumbents must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to handle trademark intake duties including sequencing, reviewing electronic and physical files, and deadline confirmations of incoming matters.
  • Ability to track and correspond regarding intake status checks.
  • Ability to conduct intake audits to confirm accuracy and completeness of files and deadlines, including preparing client or audit reports on trademark portfolios.
  • Experience handling large scale assignment or docket verification projects.
  • Ability to draft and file electronic trademark and service mark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Ability to prepare and file copyright applications with the U.S. Copyright Office.
  • Ability to independently draft domestic and international office action responses, related prosecution documents, and correspondence to clients.
  • Ability to communicate with foreign associates regarding international trademark matters.
  • Ability to register and manage internet domain names, both generic and country extensions.
  • Experience with adverse matters, demand letters, and domain name arbitrations.
  • Excellent accuracy in reviewing, monitoring, and maintaining docket deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring frequent reprioritization of workloads to meet lawyer and client expectations.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with team members, staff, and employees at all management levels within the Firm and our clients' organizations.
  • Exercise excellent judgment and initiative and possess strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills to successfully drive projects to completion.
  • Keep accurate time and billing records and comply with clients' billing requirements.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Be present at work during regularly scheduled working hours and as needed in the position, consistent with the Firm's attendance expectations.
SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Possess knowledge and experience in trademark prosecution.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent follow-through on all tasks.
  • Familiarity with trademark docketing software (ideally PATTSY).
  • Knowledge of international IP organizations.

SPECIFIC SKILLS PREFERRED

  • Patent prosecution knowledge/experience.
  • Familiarity with Foundation IP, PattsyWave, and iManage highly preferred.
EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE
  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5-7 years of trademark paralegal experience working in a mid- to large-sized law Firm is required.
  • A paralegal certificate is preferred.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, accrued paid time off plan starting at 20 days annually, personal medical and parental leave, up to 10 paid holidays, and family care benefits. This position may be filled in the following location(s). The listed compensation range reflects the typical pay for this role, though it is rare for new hires to receive an offer at the top of the range. Actual compensation may vary depending on experience, skills, market conditions, and internal equity.

Los Angeles compensation range: $81,940 to $184,370 annually

Washington state compensation range: $74,220 to $167,000 annually

Washington, D.C., compensation range: $80,160 to $180,360 annually
