The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. The USC Health Sciences Campus is home to the Keck School of Medicine, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals and society by promoting health, preventing and curing disease, advancing biomedical research and educating tomorrow's physicians and scientists. The KSoM is located in the eastern region of Los Angeles, CA, which is among the largest Latino communities in the country. KSoM houses renowned specialized care and research in cancer, neurological disorders, stem cell and regenerative medicine, and orthopedics.

The USC Department of Translational Genomics and Institute of Translational Genomics were founded in 2016 and housed within the USC KSoM with a mission of applying innovative technologies towards translating molecular findings into tools for improving precision clinical management. The Department of Translational Genomics and Institute of Translational Genomics are seeking to recruit faculty in the area of genome sciences focused on human disease and translation. This includes research focus on genomic application, biomedical informatics, and functional genomics.

The selected candidate would build and maintain an independently funded and internationally recognized basic translational research laboratory within the department.

  • Faculty applicants must have earned a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with evidenced record of appropriate research training and skills in developing original research. Tenure consideration will be based upon the candidate's experience evidenced by current scholarship, teaching, and service status.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience and training in genome science, biomedical informatics, and translational studies. This includes a focus on genetics of human disease, functional genomics, and cell biology.
  • The successful candidate is expected to build a dynamic and highly productive research group focused on basic or translational studies that relate to the major problems and issues related to human disease.
  • Duties include teaching core and elective courses at the master's level for our Masters in Biotechnology and Masters in Bioinformatics programs.

The annual base salary range for this position is $140,000-$170,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
