About this unit

7 South is a twenty-two bed Progressive Neuroscience unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we can receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. Additionally, our epilepsy program performs a range of EEG monitoring from routine up to surgical implantation. This is a specialized unit, and there are a variety of conditions patients can have in addition to their stroke. Teamwork on this unit is known to be exceptional. Members of 7 South team assist each other in any way they can giving this unit a very welcoming and warm atmosphere. We welcome new graduates and experienced healthcare professionals alike and give them the chance to continue to learn and grow their skills no matter their experience.

Scope of work

Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available for on-call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally, Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support, unit-based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, performance improvement, performance correction, and coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN) Preferred.
  • Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ year of related clinical experience in area of specialty.
  • MI RN license Required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Saving (BLS) Required.
  • NIHSS NIH Stroke Certification within ninety days Required.
