Key Position Details:

Heart Hospital Pharmacy is a 24/7 Pharmacy. Shifts will be scheduled between 7 am and 9 pm.

Pre-employment Drug Screen: This role requires that all external and internal applicants successfully pass a drug test before beginning work. A positive test result and/or refusal to submit to testing will result in disqualification of further employment consideration.

Job Description:

Provides basic drug distribution and drug preparation services. Checks pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level, preparing labels and calculating quantities. Provides coaching and mentoring to pharmacy technicians and clerks. Functions under the supervision of the pharmacist.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Prepares medications.
    • Prepares and select medications for distribution.
    • Performs data entry, adjudication, filling, labeling and bagging of prescriptions.
    • Assists Pharmacists in compounding processes as allowed.
    • Processes refills requests and prior authorizations.
    • Directs workflow systems and pharmacy staff.
  • Monitors inventory.
    • Performs daily ordering.
    • Performs inventory management.
    • Uses wholesaler return programs and support reverse distribution processes.
  • Completes and documents quality assurance activities.
    • Monitors expiration dating.
    • Ensures pharmacy environment is clean and free of clutter, safe, and presents a professional atmosphere.
    • Reports discrepancies or inaccuracies to pharmacist or supervisor.
    • Completes audits for days supply, signatures, dates, take as directed and returns-to-stock.
  • Monitors internal and external required processes.
    • Documents and complies with standards for any active accreditations.
    • Performs daily cash control routines where needed.
    • Maintains organized records of invoices, reports, and other important documents.
    • Supports daily controlled substance routines.
    • Assists Pharmacist in MTM activities as allowed.
  • Provides direction and training.
    • Directs workflow systems and pharmacy staff.
    • Trains and assists pharmacy technicians and assistants.
    • Provides coaching, mentoring, and recognition.
    • Assists supervisor in annual reviews for all technicians and assistants.
    • Completes schedules to meet business needs.
    • Assists to resolve escalated customer service issues.
  • Provides customer service.
    • Answers phone and directs calls to appropriate party.
    • May manage point of sale.
    • May consult refill management program to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective utilization of medications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
  • 0 to 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Vocational or Technical Training from an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited pharmacy technician training program
  • 2 to 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician

Licenses/Certifications

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician - MN Board of Pharmacy required upon hire
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board required within 180 Days
