SPIRITUAL COUNSELOR - HOSPICE - FULL TIME

Summary
Provides spiritual care to terminally ill patients and families and assesses and provides bereavement support to families and caregivers. Acts as a liaison between the family, patient, clergy, and community.

Job Duties

  • Provides spiritual or pastoral care and support with a focus on positive outcomes for the patient and on promoting and contributing to patient-satisfaction.
  • Offers holistic spiritual care and counsel to address the needs of the patients, families, and health care team.
  • Provides end of life counsel to patients and families honoring the spiritual beliefs, values, and culture of the patient and family.
  • Assists patients and families in a supportive manner to integrate life's events as they relate to their spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates spiritual plans of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Provides collegial support and all responsibilities in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Provides notification and consultation for patients and families wishing their faith community leaders to be notified and involved in their care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Divinity or
  • Master's Degree Related Field
  • 1 year Experience with the needs of the terminally ill, death and dying, bereavement, and grief management. and
  • 1 year Experience with providing spiritual counseling services.
  • Basic understanding of health care organizations and procedures.
  • Emotional maturity and ability to cope and work effectively with stress of continual loss.
  • High level of biblical knowledge.
  • Skilled in crucial end of life and other complex communication.
  • Understanding of the psycho-social issues related to families in crisis and end of life issues.
  • Knowledge of community resources related to patients spiritual care needs.
  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training, equivalent training in spiritual counseling in a clinical setting, or ordained/licensed or commissioned by appropriate religious body.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
