The Sea Level Solutions Center in the Institute of Environment and Earth and Environment Department at Florida International University (FIU) (https://slsc.fiu.edu) is accepting applications for a postdoctoral scholar to conduct research that advances coastal urban sustainability based in Miami, Florida.

The candidate will focus on developing new integrative methods that support design, assessment and scenario modeling of coastal adaptation and sustainability actions at local to regional scales. This position will support research on a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate and Societal Interactions Adaptation Sciences Project 'The Resilient305 Collaborative: Advancing Hyperlocal, Replicable, Impact-driven Adaptation Science through Resilience Learning', in collaboration with University of Miami, City University of New York-Hunter and Miami-Dade College faculty, local government and community-based organization partners. The position is also cross-cutting with ongoing research as part of National Science Foundation-funded Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research program (http://fcelter.fiu.edu/), NOAA-funded IOOS Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional Association Water Level Monitoring Network (https://secoora.org/focus-areas/coastal-hazards-and-climate-variability/), and the Resilient305 Collaborative (https://resilient305.com/our-research/).

The candidate will: 1) develop, integrate and synthesize available social, ecological and infrastructure data to advance multisectoral analyses of sustainability and resilience interventions, 2) build on urban ecosystem studies to monitor and understand the impact of flooding and heat in Miami and Southeast Florida, 3) develop land use or other modeling output to support evaluation of alternative scenarios under future conditions, and 4) collaborate with local practitioners and academic scientists to apply information and modeling to support decision-making around coastal urban sustainability and resilience in the Southeast Florida region. The selected candidate will join an existing interdisciplinary, collaborative team of graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and local practitioners with a shared goal of advancing coastal urban sustainability and resilience in the face of multiple shocks and stresses as part of the Resilient305 Collaborative.

A PhD in geoscience, hydrology, urban planning or environmental engineering is required. An interdisciplinary background is preferred. Preferred skills include a strong proficiency in. statistical and computational modeling and/or experience in land use or other scenario modeling and analysis. The position is available for a one-year term with possibility for renewal based satisfactory performance.
