Temporary PostDoctoral Associate Mechanical and Material Engineering

A postdoctoral position is available to conduct research in the area of quantum materials, in particular of relevance to quantum emitters and nonlinear optical crystals. The position is a part of the NSF IMPAQT Center at FIU, focused on materials for quantum information science.

The research focus is to identify, synthesize and characterize new quantum materials and tune their properties using chemical modification. This will involve the synthesis of single crystals, nanomaterials (0D, 1D and 2D), and understanding of their structure and properties using modern characterization techniques.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental work for the development of new quantum materials
  • Utilize chemical and physical methods to modify and tune of quantum materials properties
  • Synthesize and characterize inorganic materials including halides, oxides, chalcogenides, nanoalloys etc. by a variety of solid-state methods
  • Single crystal growth
  • Nanomaterials synthesis
  • Identify promising new material systems
  • Present and report research results and publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals in a timely fashion (6-8 month)
  • Assist in maintaining shared laboratory equipment and training new users
  • Mentoring Undergraduate and Graduate students
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements
  • Display strong work ethics

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Solid State Chemistry, Solid State Physics, Materials Science or a related field completed within the last 5 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with single crystal growth, and/or with doping of inorganic solids through low temperature methods
  • Background in inorganic chemistry, materials and nanomaterials synthesis and characterization
