The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites applications for the Fitness Supervisor.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Fitness Coordinator, the Fitness Supervisor will be responsible for oversight of athletic & recreational programs. The Fitness Supervisor will primarily be responsible for supervising a wide range of student facing services, employee supervision and facility oversight.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:



  • Ensure that fitness programs operate in a safe and welcoming environment and meet student needs in the areas of holistic health and wellness
  • Supervise Student Health and Fitness Assistants (SHFCAs) and Group Fitness Instructors; ensure that employees carry out work according to guidelines
  • Manage athletic facility activity including fitness center operations, fitness classes, open gym activities and other events.
  • Monitor athletic facility usage and availability; be aware of all special events to take place in the athletic facilities.
  • Directly supervise home athletic contests as needed.
  • Ensure that an adequate amount of staff are working at each location during each shift.
  • Monitor all areas of the athletic facility for safety / security; intervene to address potential hazards.
  • Immediately report details of any injuries or unusual situations occurring in the athletic facility that are either witnessed firsthand or reported by other employees.
  • Ensure proper and timely group fitness classroom and athletic team practice set up and break down.
  • Assist Assistant Director with assessment distribution and data collection.
  • Assist Fitness Coordinator with apparel and gear distribution, collection and inventory control.
  • Provide materials / equipment to department employees for special campus events or as needed.
  • Supervise athletic facility opening and / or closing procedures.
  • Complete required trainings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or equivalency and completion of two years in an accredited post-secondary

    institution.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in athletic administration, sports management, health, wellness, physical education, business management or related field of study.
  • One year of experience working in a college athletics and recreation setting.
  • Experience in college level athletics and recreation facilities, equipment and inventory control.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • Genuine interest in health, fitness and / or athletics, satisfaction in working with students and employees especially in the area of fitness operations and enthusiasm to enhance the FIT student recreation experience required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and personnel management skills.
  • Ability to solve problems, work independently, manage schedules of a large number of part time employees and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR / AED and Basic First Aid certification prior to the time of appointment.

  • Availability to work weekday evening shifts and / or full day weekend shifts.
  • Occasional availability for special assignments outside of regularly scheduled work hours.
  • Availability for regularly scheduled weekly shifts during the entire fall and spring semesters.
  • Availability for limited winter and summer hours.


Additional Information:

Salary:

Hourly Rate: $22.28 - $27 per hour; hourly wage will be determined based on experience, qualifications and budgetary allowance.

Work Schedule:

Days/Hours: Mondays 4:45pm-10:15pm, Saturdays/Sundays 10:30am-3:30pm, in-person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Terms: FIT coaching positions consist of at-will appointments that last for one fiscal year, and do not carry any medical, annual leave, sick leave, or other fringe benefit entitlement.
