Transplant Nutrition Educator - Heart and Lung

Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Transplant Nutrition Educator - Heart and Lung to join our heart and lung transplant multidisciplinary team. This role will be PRN, on an as-needed basis, covering PTO, increased volumes, and progressive growth.

Transplant Nutrition Educator - Heart and Lung Job Responsibilities:

• At the only heart and lung transplant program in the Northern VA/DC/Maryland metropolitan area, you will work closely with a team of professionals passionate about providing excellence in organ transplant care.
• Develops, reviews and revises organ specific transplant nutritional assessment policies at least annually or as needed to comply with updates to best practice or regulatory changes.
• Provides individual clinical, educational and behavioral assessment specific to organ transplant appropriateness including frailty and functional assessments. Develops patient specific medical nutrition therapy programs including assessment, instruction, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
• Provides recommendations regarding pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies.
• Serves as a transplant nutrition expert resource to the multidisciplinary team.
• Represents the transplant nutritional assessment and education program in department, hospital and system level continuing education offerings.
• Develops and facilitates patient education and support groups.
• Develops and facilitates quality assessment and practice improvement initiatives.
• Represents the transplant nutritional assessment and patient education program to regulatory surveyors as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

• Hours: PRN, on an as-needed basis, covering PTO, increased volumes, and progressive growth.
• Location: Inova Fairfax Medical Campus
• Education: Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition or dietetics
• Experience: 4 years of solid organ transplant nutrition experience
• Licensure/Certifications: Certified Clinical Transplant Dietitian (certifying body is NATCO) as a certification to be required within 12 months of hire; Registered Dietitian
