General Summary of Position

Job Summary:

Responsible for the installation, calibration, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of progressively complex medical equipment throughout the Washington Hospital Center (WHC) and contracted accounts. Reviews device specific repair history for identification of potentially unresolved equipment problems. Answers questions regarding medical equipment and its usage and documents activities. Coordinates activities during inspection cycles of a specific department's equipment. This position will be represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Primary Duties:

  • Performs calibration, preventive maintenance, electrical safety, performance testing, and special projects on assigned clinical/medical/patient care systems and devices. Documents activities providing a history for the piece of equipment.
  • Performs routine to moderately complex repairs on clinical/medical equipment. Research necessary parts (electrical/mechanical components, subassemblies, and manuals, etc.). Documents activities to ensure completeness and accuracy of the equipment's history.
  • Gathers technical information from publications, manuals, and manufacturers and independent technical support groups related to inspection and repair of medical devices and systems.
  • Functions as a team coordinator of scheduled inspection activities for a specific department's equipment. Verifies accuracy of inventory listing and availability of necessary parts/test equipment. Determines person-days required; assigns designated personnel to specific tasks. Coordinates efforts with clinical and/or administrative personnel.
  • Reviews device specific repair history for identification of potentially unresolved equipment problems.
  • Maintains technical expertise on designated technology. Develops technical expertise in new areas of exposure as assigned.
  • May mix, test, and/or provide chemicals, lubricants, and supplies that are required for the proper operation and maintenance of WHC equipment.
  • Provides "on-call" technical assistance in order to verify equipment malfunctions and to provide off-hours emergency service.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or Higher-level degree or equivalent training, such as in biomedical equipment technology or electrical/electronic engineering or military electronics, is required.
  • 1 to 3 years' experience required: technician experience -- preferably in a clinical engineering environment.


This position has a hiring range of $29.53 - $49.217
