Overview

Sign On Incentive of $7,500 for qualifying candidates!

Under the direction of the Supervisor Technologist, the Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist performs sterile diagnostic, interventional radiographic procedures in 3 Vascular and IR suites (Siemens Artis-zee C-Arms) and assists in CT biopsies or catheter drainage procedures. Performs and assists in diagnostic and therapeutic endovascular and non-vascular interventional radiological procedures. Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) within 30 minutes. Provide safe patient care with healthcare team for patients ranging in ages from newborn to geriatric. Actively participates in outstanding customer patient service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Current team is family oriented and Iowa friendly staff that consists of 4 IR and Vascular Technologists, 4 dedicated IR and Vascular Nurses, 1 dedicated control desk administrative scheduler. We are also a collaborative team that works frequently with OR teams within the hybrid OR suite that performs advanced cutting edge procedures such as TCAR, EVAR, TAVR, and combination open and endovascular procedures.

Physician and surgeons using our IR Suites are 4 excellent IR and Vascular Physicians, 2 Vascular and Endovascular Surgeons, and 2 Peripheral Cardiologists.

The Cardiac Cath Lab is separate from IR and Vascular Labs. On-Call is not shared.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physician with sterile procedures, anticipates their needs, and is knowledgeable of all necessary equipment and supplies. Ensures aseptic and sterile techniques are observed. Assist with sheath removal with vascular closure devices and holds arterial pressure until hemostasis. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirm patient/exam accuracy before administering exam.
  • Maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by Interventional Radiologists, Vascular surgeon, and Cardiologists. Participates in physiologic monitoring of patients.
  • Utilizes proper positioning criteria and technical exposure factors. Ensures study has correct patient demographics prior to procedure and transferring images into PACS.
  • Assists as needed with all members of the healthcare team. Handles various job tasks simultaneously. Works to improve productivity by maintaining IR Suite ready status by preparing the Suite and equipment for the next procedure. [Personal Productivity and Accountability]

  • Applies appropriate use of PPE: follows the OSHA/UnityPoint' s Infection Control policies for handling blood or body substances, waste disposal for biohazardous and non-biohazardous waste and keeps a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers. Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner. Properly wears Dosimeter badge and seeks to minimize radiation exposure. [Safety and Environment of Care]
  • Utilizes the knowledge and skills for age-specific factors necessary to perform safe and effective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate/infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics). The knowledge and skills are acquired through formal training, in-service, continuing education, and/or experience. Willing to learn/adapt to new technologies and help develop the knowledge and competency of co-workers and students. Addresses patient and family needs, answers questions, and reduce anxieties.   • Participates in quality improvement initiatives while understanding the department performance trends and established standards. Participates in department and patient satisfaction initiatives. Utilizes patient service recovery resources when appropriate. [Performance Improvement]

  • Takes call as rotated/assigned and responds (in hospital) within 30 minutes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Qualifications
  • Knowledge of procedure-specific equipment (Thrombectomy Devices, Atherectomy Devices, Sonosite US, and other endovascular specific devices)
  • Knowledge of fluoroscopic equipment (Siemens Artis-zee C-Arm)
  • Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Interventional and Vascular Radiology
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Independent judgment and anticipate physician needs (Interventional Radiologists, Vascular Surgeons, and Peripheral Cardiologists)
  • Ingenuity and initiative character on a daily basis.
  • 1-2 years of Interventional Radiology training/experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Radiology or healthcare-related field (Preferred)
  • Interventional Radiology experience including embolization, endovascular stents and stent-grafting, angioplasty, thrombolysis, biopsies, abscess drainage, hybrid OR endovascular surgeries, paracentesis and thoracentesis, and arterial or venous access management.
  • Experience in fast paced emergent situations (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

  • Iowa State License - General Radiographer
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT (VI) or (CV) or acquired within 2 years
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
