A Ph.D. or ABD by the position start date

The Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences invites applications for one tenure-track nine-month faculty position in Biochemistry with a start date of August 2025. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all degree requirements before the date of appointment.

The successful applicant will be required to establish a strong research and teaching portfolio within the field of Biochemistry. Ideal candidates will be able to contribute to either the Organic or Analytical course offerings.

The individual must demonstrate a dedication to excellence in teaching, a strong commitment to service and community engagement, and be prepared to lead scholarly activities with undergraduate research students. Scholarly expectations include peer-reviewed publications and establishing an externally funded undergraduate research program.

The Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with eight different concentrations: the American Chemical Society ( ACS) Certified degree, Marketing and Business, Biochemistry, Environmental, Fermentation Sciences, Forensic Science, Individually Designed and Chemistry Secondary Education Licensure. The department also offers a BA degree in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science degree in Fermentation Sciences. The department has 19 tenure-track faculty members, 17 non-tenure track faculty members, and approximately 350 undergraduate majors. Many of the Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences majors conduct research and disseminate their results at national, regional, and local professional meetings and in peer-reviewed publications.

ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
