Job Description

1. Job Overview

The Electronics Specialist is responsible for maintaining and making repairs associated with the facility and production equipment in an electrical capacity or otherwise as assigned. Assists with preventive maintenance, machine upgrades and modifications.

2. Job Dimensions

  • Member of the plant maintenance and engineering staff
  • Subject matter expert on controls and electronics
  • Ancillary responsibilities in computer network, telephone systems & others
  • Occasional off-hours troubleshooting calls

3. Principal Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety is the number one priority and is not compromised by any other objective
  • Utilize technical expertise to troubleshoot process and machine problems, coordinating with other maintenance department co-workers
  • Identify electronic training requirements for the department and work in conjunction with Human Resources and the Maintenance and Engineering Manager to implement departmental cross-training on various pieces of equipment (10%)
  • Employ 5S principles in your work throughout plant, office, and other work areas
  • Manage costs and implement efficiencies related to electronic maintenance
  • About 60% of the job will be performance of site electrical and control systems
  • About 20% of the job will be electrical projects
  • Establish and conduct electrical training for maintenance personnel on various pieces of equipment (10%)
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical problems
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance procedures for all electrical systems. Carry out preventative maintenance as written in accepted procedures
  • Administer lock-out, tag-out program
  • Collaborate with telephone service provider to troubleshoot problems, make changes and upgrades as needed
  • Employ hands on ability to assist maintenance technicians as needed
  • Support operations with information reporting tools useful in analyzing and interpreting control system data
  • Monitor and respond to company cell phone calls on an emergency basis
  • Perform other activities as assigned

6. Qualifications/Requirements

6.1 Formal Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge and Experience

  • A firm understanding of safety principles
  • 2 years' work related experience directly associated with PLCs and AC/DC drives
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management
  • Sound mechanical aptitude
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills related to PLCs, AC/DC drives and 3-phase power and power distributions
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills with all levels of organization
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to solve problems logically and quickly
  • Ability to support a 24-hour operation

Education and Certifications

  • 2 year technical degree preferred
  • 5+ years manufacturing experience in a related function

6.2 Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviors

Job Specific skills and abilities

  • AS400 experience a plus
  • Experience with extrusion, laminating and printing equipment preferred
  • Flexible packaging experience a plus
  • Solid knowledge of PLCs, AC/DC drives and 3 phase power and power distributions
