Edward Elmhurst RN Emergency Department Transition Program

Edward Elmhurst is delighted to be able to once again offer the RN Emergency Department Transition Program. This program is for experienced acute care nurses who have a desire to transition into Emergency Nursing. Join our Lantern Award Winning Emergency teams as you train alongsideour skilled and talentedED clinicians, with both precepted clinical time on the unit and dedicated time with the ED educator. This three-month transition program will offer you a successful transition into the specialty with support and collaboration from peers in the cohort. Apply today, limited spots are available.

Job Summary:

  • Provides professional nursing carein accordance with the Illinois Professional Registered Nurse Practice Act, and hospital policies and procedures. Employs critical thinking skills, assesses patients' condition, recognizes changes, plans and evaluates care, monitors patients' progress, and records pertinent observations. Delegates appropriate patient care tasks to other staff. Functions as a team member to fulfill unit goals. The following are general characteristics of this job, although duties may vary by assigned unit or shift.

Hours:

  • PM and Night Shifts are available

  • Transition Program classroom hours are day shift

Location:

  • Edward Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital or Plainfield ED

Required:

  • 1 year of nursing inpatient experience as an RN

  • Preferred Education, Skills and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nursing

  • Required Education, Skills and/or Experience:

    • Associate Degree or higher in Nursing

      • If Associate Degree in Nursing is the highest degree held, must graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing within five years of position start date.

  • Required License and/or Certification:

    • Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure

    • Current CPR Certification issued by either American Heart Association or American Red Cross

    • Emergency Services - the below certifications can be completed during the program and required within 3 months.

      • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within three months of start date into position

      • Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within three months of start date into position

      • Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) within three months of start date into position
