Newscast Producer

Job Description:
KOMU 8 News is looking for a new morning show producer to join its dynamic morning show team. The ideal candidate must have previous experience producing local TV news. The morning show producer will work closely with another producer to write, edit, and execute a fast-paced and engaging newscast. The candidate will also work closely with the entire news team to ensure the most important news stories are presented to the viewers.

KOMU 8 News Today is a highly collaborative environment, and candidates must be able to work well with anchors, meteorologists, directors and other staff members. The producer will often work with student producers who will require some supervision and professional mentoring. The producer will be expected to produce 60-90 minutes of content in a highly formatted morning show. The producer will also be expected to have demonstrable experience with industry standard digital platforms and social media outlets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce and write content for morning newscasts with a focus on local, breaking news.
  • Incorporate breaking news seamlessly into the broadcast.
  • Work with technical teams to ensure all elements, including graphics, video, and scripts, are aligned.
  • Coordinate with field crews and manage live shots.
  • Work with the team to plan for promotable content.
  • Monitor news wires and social media platforms to stay updated on current news and trends.
  • Responsible for adhering to station policies, guidelines, and legal standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

Early morning and possibly weekends

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Mass Communication or a related field.
  • Previous experience producing broadcast news programs.
  • Demonstrable experience in broadcast and digital writing.
  • Demonstrable experience editing video in a non-linear environment.
  • Experience with Inception or other computer assisted news production system. Experience with Adobe Premiere video editing platform.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $19.23 - $24.04/hour

Grade: GGS-007
