The Position

The mission of the OCC Adult Transition Center Is to provide student-centered and accessible services to adults with developmental disabilities so that they can feel safe and welcome on OCC's Campus, empowering them to succeed. This position will be part of the OCC Department of Workforce and Professional Education and will report to the Executive Director of Workforce and Professional Education.

This position will play a pivotal role in identifying and selecting potential participants and will also serve as the liaison with partners to connect support services for programming, evaluation and reporting.

Monday-Friday (3-6pm) Approximately 30 weeks per year


What You Will Do

  1. Plan, conduct, and implement evidenced-based practices for students with intellectual disabilities focused on transition and employment.
  2. Assist in developing and cultivating partnerships with schools, community, state-based and parent organizations to strengthen transition programming for young adults with disabilities.
  3. Recruit students through referrals and contact with school districts, agencies, etc.
  4. Assists students in identifying and enrolling in activities that support future employment in collaboration with community agencies.
  5. Develops the application process and conducts the initial intake with qualifying individuals.
  6. Develop individual student plans and schedules that support personal, academic, and career goals.
  7. Oversee development, coordination and implementation of activities associated with orientations, workshops, job observations, site visits, internship placements, student and family seminars, and career exploration activities in accordance with WIOA Guidelines.
  8. Assist student participants in developing individualized educational/career plans based on appraisals of aptitude, interests, personality, and other relevant vocational factors.
  9. Assist with the development and oversight of career-based programming for students in career paths, resume building, job search, interviewing techniques, appropriate work habits, and interpersonal skills necessary for success in competitive employment.
  10. Facilitate workshops and public forums relating to services provided by the Center.
  11. Collects data in order to prepare institutional and grant-related reports.
  12. Related duties and projects as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Must Have

  1. Bachelor's Degree with NJ State Teacher's Certification and experience with special education.
  2. Two years demonstrated experience coordinating program activities related to student training and employment.
  3. Knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including ADA as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Even Better If You Have

  1. Prior experience in establishing a similar center for student-centered and accessible services to adults with developmental disabilities.
  2. Master's degree.
