Job Title: Orthodontic Dispensary Supervisor, Dental Care III

Job Summary:



Supervises staff in the operation and maintenance of the orthodontics dispensary, determining adequate inventory levels and the availability of dental materials and clinic supplies for patient care, workshops, and licensing exams. Oversees equipment registry, prepackages dental materials according to various dental procedures, and provides training on proper instrument handling. Responsible for managing work schedules, timesheets, and maintaining productivity levels.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Dispensary Supervision - 60% (Essential Function)



  • Supervises staff in the operation and maintenance of the orthodontics dispensary, ensuring adequate inventory levels and the availability of dental materials and clinic supplies for patient care, workshops, and licensing exams.
  • Crosstrain in order to function and support all areas of the clinical support services department, the clean side and decontamination side of the clinical dispensary and radiology.
  • Work with and be part of the schedule the dental care support staff; follow to help support the team, the clinical needs, and monitor to ensure proper protocols are being followed.
  • Supervises staff in the preparation of solutions and prepackaging of dental materials, according to various dental procedures and observing infection control protocols.


Dispensary Operations - 35% (Essential Function):



  • Responsible for overseeing the processing, sterilization, lubrication, and sharpening of equipment dispensed throughout the clinic.
  • Prepackages and distributes dental materials and equipment to dental students and faculty.
  • Reinforces proper infection-control policies and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Take high-quality diagnostic radiographs such as PA's, BWX, Pano's, Cephalometric, Frontal, hand/wrist, and occlusal.
  • Process and mount digital images, manipulate images for quality.


Clinical Education Support - 5% (Essential Function)



  • Support the educational mission of the SDM, including role modeling and coaching students how to function as a dental assistant in both four-handed chairside activities and in clinical operations support.


Other Duties - (Non-essential Function)



  • On occasion, this position may be assigned other duties or locations needed to help drive to the vision, fulfill the mission, and uphold the organizational values of CU Denver/Anschutz and the SDM.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Three years of dental assisting experience, which includes experience in an Orthodontic setting.

    • Substitution: Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program may substitute for one year of experience. NOTE: If exercising the education substitution, applicants MUST attach a copy of their dental assisting certificate to their applicant materials no later than the closing date listed in the announcement.


  • Experience managing and supervising others.


  • Must possess current valid CPR and/or BLS certification.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:



  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT).
  • Experience in sterilizing and dispensing dental instruments and equipment.
  • Experience ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Experience training staff and functioning as a resource to others.
  • Experience working in a high-volume dental environment.
  • Experience pouring up models, trimming models, and the making of Essix's.


Conditions of Employment:



  • Position may be assigned weekend and/or evening shifts
  • Position may be assigned an alternative work week schedule

  • Knowledge of current dental materials, orthodontic instruments, and proper use and technique
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level, knowledge, and proficiency in all phases of dental assisting
  • Familiarity with OSHA,HIPAA, and infection control guidelines
  • Interaction with students, faculty or staff on a daily basis to meet the demands of clinical and educational operations. Strong communication skills and problem solving skills for dealing with a variety of personalities and various levels of stress at times.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting hiring range for this position has been established as $46,056 to $54,458 per year.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
