Job Overview

As described in Hubbell Incorporated's (Hubbell) Sustainability Report, Hubbell's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities reflect our commitment to electrifying economies and energizing communities.

Hubbell is hiring a Sustainability Intern to support our team in creating and executing sustainability initiatives aligned with Hubbell's global ESG priorities. The Hubbell Summer Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program providing students the opportunity to gain corporate experience, learn about all aspects of our business, and prepare students with the kind of experience needed to have a rewarding career at Hubbell.

The Sustainability Intern will typically have unique assignments that support larger projects as well as the day-to-day initiatives of the Sustainability team, while spending time shadowing actual operations. Interns may perform and/or participate in additional activities/events which will help them build a strong network within the Hubbell community.

The Sustainability Intern will be expected to work full-time (at 40 hours/week) and will be compensated on an hourly basis. This in-person role (hybrid schedule; T-W-Th required to be in office) will be based in Shelton, Connecticut, where Hubbell is headquartered.

A Day In The Life

  • Assisting with process improvement and assist other co-workers as appropriate
  • Managing multiple projects with overlapping tasks and working independently with minimal supervision
  • Presenting to the local management team via an end of summer presentation



Sustainability Intern Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the Sustainability Intern may vary depending on the priorities of Hubbell's Sustainability Team during the time of the internship, however, they may include the following:



  • Developing a working knowledge of corporate sustainability, spanning climate change, water, waste, circular economy, supply chain responsibility, diversity and equity, community impact, and disclosure/reporting frameworks
  • Learning about Hubbell's current and future sustainability initiatives and priorities
  • Directly contributing to internal reporting and strategy projects, including conducting research/benchmarking, drafting sustainability communications, collecting and analyzing data, organizing employee engagement initiatives, and implementing initiatives
  • Performing other relevant duties as assigned

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • The student must be enrolled in an accredited university working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Science/Studies/Management/Policy, Sustainability, Engineering, Business Management/Administration, Finance, Economics, International Business, or related degree)
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfortable presenting to others
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment in both in-person and virtual settings
  • Working knowledge of sustainability and ESG concepts
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)



Preferred Qualifications



  • Personal passion and interest in ESG/sustainability issues
  • Demonstrates professionalism and a proactive work ethic
  • Ability to synthesize information and experience in developing engaging PowerPoint slides
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and champion new ideas and approaches
  • Previous corporate sustainability/ESG internship or project experience is a plus


Expectations: The intern will be expected to work full-time at 40 hours/week and will be compensated on an hourly basis.

Compensation Range: $22.50/hour - $29.00/hour (dependent upon graduation date)
