The NC State Veterinary Hospital is an integrated health care center for companion, equine and farm animals. We exist to further the teaching mission of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine and to provide state-of-the-art patient care. More than 30,000 patients are diagnosed and treated annually by the Veterinary Hospital. Established in 1983, the Veterinary Hospital is one of the highest rated regional academic medical centers in the country, serving communities throughout North Carolina as well as many other states.

Essential Job Duties
This veterinarian will be responsible for the assessment of geriatric patients for which further diagnostics and treatment would not be feasible.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Form a plan for patient care with a focus on maintenance of quality of life encompassing the pets' and owners' needs.
  • Perform intermittent assessments, house visits, telemedicine appointments, and follow-up communications.
  • Support ongoing research into geriatric medicine, and work to present and publish novel data.

Other Responsibilities

  • Active contribution to the knowledge base through collaboration with other clinical specialists and/or basic scientists or through independent research and board preparation is encouraged but not specifically required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • DVM or equivalent degree. Eligibility for veterinary licensure in North Carolina also required.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Self-motivated and able to perform prescribed treatments without supervision
  • Excellent communication and client skills
  • Ability to work in a collegial team setting with referring veterinarians and internal veterinarians
