Position Summary:
The J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of
Architecture and Design (HCAD) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)
invites applications for two University Lecturer positions. This full-time teaching
appointment is within the New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) at HCAD.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to NJIT's rich
tradition of design-build studios in Newark and beyond, and teaching courses on
related topics.

Essential Functions:
The successful candidate will teach and develop
undergraduate and graduate courses, including all levels of architectural
design studios, in both our Bachelor and Master of Architecture programs. These coordinated studios use a shared
syllabus focused on integrated design and construction. Additionally, the
candidate will teach lecture and seminar courses on topics related to the
practice of design-build, such as design, representation, construction,
materials, fabrication, structure, technology, and sustainability. Candidates are expected to bring their expertise to these topics and
demonstrate a commitment to educational excellence in a public university with
a diverse student body.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an interest in the
production of designed interventions serving the public realm. In addition to
addressing NJIT's commitment to fostering an engaged community as outlined in
the university's 2030 strategic plan, NJIT Makes an Innovation Nexus,
this role also supports HCAD's Newark Design Collaborative (NDC), which extends
the talents and skills of our faculty and students to the greater Newark area
and beyond, addressing societal challenges through civic engagement and
collaboration.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

We seek candidates with a strong focus on making in its
various forms, especially within a university design-build studio environment.

- Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated integration of
making and teaching practices.
- A record of teaching excellence is required,
supported by practical experience in leading design-build projects in both
construction and architectural design.
- Candidates should possess a
thorough understanding of all phases of the design process, drawing on their
professional experience and expertise in the design-build delivery methods.
Experience engaging with stakeholders outside of academia, such as local community groups and
non-profit organizations, and city, county, and state agencies, is also essential.
- At the university's discretion, the education and experience
prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the
satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and
experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
While we welcome all applications, preference will be
given to candidates who meet some combination of the following:
- A terminal degree in Architecture (e.g., Bachelor and/or Master of Architecture)
- At least 3 years of professional practice experience in architectural design
- Teaching experience in architectural design studios
- Architecture licensure
