Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker support our Peninsula offices.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with patients and their families to administer, assess, and provide appropriate follow-up identified by psychosocial needs assessment.
  • Knowledgeable about trauma-informed care and crisis intervention methods
  • Active member of the medical interdisciplinary team. Ensure ongoing communication with the team members to facilitate understanding and support of identified patient needs.
  • Provides emotional support to patient and families, including therapeutic counseling and crisis assessment follow-up counseling on an ongoing basis.
  • Develop, facilitate, and maintain support groups to enhance the quality of care provided to patient and their families.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community agencies, health care organizations, and other providers to promote a broad base of support for patients and families.
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational policies, NASW code of ethics, and/or best practices when operating within the healthcare setting.
  • Develop and facilitate professional presentations to group and organization to facilitate public understanding of the psychosocial and psychosociological aspects of the cancer experience.
  • Provide education to clinical staff regarding skills and knowledge specific to the role of a masters-prepared social worker(MSW) in a medical practice; serves as a resource and expert to clinic staff and providers in managing patients with psychological needs.
  • Performs case management services ( i.e., resource coordination, developing, coordinating, and monitoring a goal plan) with patient and families.

Qualifications

  • aster's degree in social work from an accredited university required.
  • Minimum 2-3-year experience required working as a masters-level prepared social worker (MSW) in a healthcare or hospital setting; oncology palliative and/or hospice experience desired.
  • Valid and current master-level license (i.e., LMSW) or working towards to obtain it within 6 months. Or currently working towards state master's clinical level license (i.e. LCSW)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products.
  • Knowledge of both trauma-informed care and crisis intervention planning preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel between locations as needed.
