Job Summary

The Associate Director's primary job responsibilities will be the management of assigned hospital(s) under the scope of EVS and/or Hospitality Services. Additionally, the incumbent will be providing guidance and establishing standards of work for all Satellite Site as a part of the assigned hospital(s) in conjunction with the Hospitality Services System Director. The Associate Director will support functions including but not limited to, Implementation & Enforcement of SOP / Standards of Work, Training, EOC & QA Rounds, Regulatory Compliance, and Special Projects as assigned; specific scope of assignments may be determined by the System Director. Manages hospitality leadership involved in the supervision of cleanliness for patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, laboratory areas, waiting areas and public restrooms using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Follows established infection-control practices to ensure a clean and safe environment. Oversees bio-hazardous waste disposal process according to established procedures and quality standards. Follows established procedures for dealing with potential hazards. Monitors inventory and inspects equipment for repair and / or replacement. As needed, the Associate Director may also oversee the Linen Department and PBX services, ensuring that these areas meet the established standards and objectives. This includes managing linen services operations, overseeing inventory and par levels, and ensuring efficient communication and coordination within PBX. The Associate Director will ensure that these additional services are aligned with the overall goals of providing a clean, safe, and customer

The Hospitality Services Associate Director(s) reports to the System Director of Hospitality Services. This position has oversight of day-to-day operations, and functions, including but not limited to Training Quality Control, Compliance, Budget, Patient / Customer Satisfaction, and Labor and Employee Relations responsibilities. Manages all cleaning and waste management functions within the scope of Hospitality Services, in the Medical Center. Duties are directed towards patient/customer satisfaction, the provision of a clean and safe environment and meeting established department objectives; Ensures that all Regulatory Requirements and standards for maintaining a safe and clean environment are met. Develops and conducts the formal training programs for the Hospitality Services Departmental employees. i.e., new employee orientation, in-service refresher training, introduction of new products and/or methods of cleaning to staff

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $160,500 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Hospitality Services Department provides housekeeping services, floor care, carpet care, compost, recycling, solid waste removal, and biohazardous waste removal at Saint Francis and St. Mary's Medical Centers and related locations. The department also provides consultative services to satellite UCSF clinics located throughout the Bay area if needed. This may also include managing linen services operations and PBX Services. The department aims to ensure a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Five-year or more, housekeeping / healthcare management experience
  • Working knowledge of custodial and housekeeping services including knowledge of codes and policies governing bio hazardous and / or hazardous waste.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with senior management and staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fiscal management including budget development.
  • Ability to implement process improvement strategies and quality initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources management and staff development. Ability to manage staff with diverse skills.
  • Ability to prepare monthly report on KPIs and statistics
  • Compile, review, a d present supervisor rounds forms to the Department Head
  • Coordinate and compile results from QA and Infection Control monitoring program and present materials at relevant meetings.

  • CHESP - Certified Health Care Environmental Services professional certification
  • Bloodborne pathogen and sharps disposal training.
  • National Housekeeping certification
  • American Society for Healthcare Environmental Services
